Any thoughts on working at Foster Garvey NY in their corporate team? How is the work life balance in the firm and is the culture very Big Law-esque or does it have a more mid-sized firm culture?

I am being head hunted more frequently. I am in the final stages for one position that seems like an amazing opportunity with a company that plans to go public this year and was just approached for another potential opportunity for a big company that went public last year. Ever feel like an opportunity is too good to be true or are these great opportunities really out there? I think I am just scared to take the leap of faith

Hypo: client says they agreed to use a prior agreement another firm drafted as precedent for a new deal prior to engaging you. It’s maybe the most poorly written contact you’ve ever seen. Most material terms are arguably there, but it’s convoluted and you’d be embarrassed to put your name on it. There’s clearly a better way to draft it. To what extent do you re-write certain sections?

Does anyone have experience or thoughts about life after big law (whatever that means)? I'm a third year tax associate and seriously worrying whether I've chosen a practice area that is too "niche" to find something after. Do I even want to practice law? Do I just need a vacation?? I applied for a lateral job in a growing group that doesn’t have associates yet. I talked to a sr. associate in a different office/group to get a better sense of the firm’s vibe and we both really enjoyed our call. He kindly offered to recommend an interview to HR. Is there anything else I can do? I would be switching practices altogether so I want to be as proactive as possible to know what I’m getting myself into (and make my app more favorable because I really want to break into the field).

If you do billable work on a given PTO/vacation day, do you still count that day as vacation? Or do you get that vacation day "back"? Or do you only get the part that you billed "back"? (Or some other option.)

There is a partner that, without fail, calls on Fridays after 6pm anytime I am staffed with him. It’s extremely frustrating since his calls are usually non-urgent and I make it a point to check in early in the day to address anything. Any advice?
