Pretty much, but I think it's natural after years of caring too much about something our industry (society?) doesn't seem to value. The LLMs certainly made it worse as well.
Yes. I’m 22 years in and I pretty much hate it now, too. Slowly coming to the realization that I probably need a hard pivot sooner than later, but not sure what my next step is.
An instance of the blind leading the blind, unfortunately. I think about it all the time but whatever I come up with doesn’t stick.
I'm going through this now. For years, I worked for a series of agencies that eventually closed down. A couple closed due to divorce, and one due to the owner's gambling addiction. I went in-house after that. Two company-wide layoffs later, and I'm truly over it now. I've started training to be an EKG Tech for a steady gig, while freelancing on the side. Healthcare is stable, and I need stability in my life. After all the drama I've been through, due to no fault of my own, I need a break. My brain hurts just thinking about it 😳
In nearly 20 years I've had 2 jobs I loved. Most were ok, just boring and nothing to learn, nothing to write except email subject lines. And more than a few were just absolutel c***s. I still wouldn't want to do anything else,
Switch to the art side. I was art and got similarly bored- became a writer. Problem solved.
I think this happens because we monetized our passion lol it's a blessing and a curse
4-year Art Director switching to copywriting here. Say it ain't so!
Agree with Creative—I would rather be on the art side. The copy side is brutal.
From copywriting, I've segued into technical writing. So, I didn't actually grow to hate writing, but my interest shifted. I wanted a different type of challenge and took the plunge.
