Yikes, no—it shows how the strategist profile is on the rise in New Advertising though. I have this whole theory that creatives and producers represent making work, and strategists represent decks, and talking about work we COULD make (while still billing hours).
More and more that’s all agencies do. Sounds like yours has officially named decks the priority. Sorry to hear it, hope you find a place that makes stuff.

FWIW - and this may be unique to entertainment marketing — but I’ve always had copywriters report to strategists. In my experience, most strategists come up through the copy path (as I did) and most CDs I’ve worked with came up through design / illustration and aren’t what you might call “readers”. Some were way too ADD to even finish a tagline.
The strategists I worked with had no copy experience at all. Barely any life experience.
Yeah don’t get me wrong, I understand the importance of strategy and working WITH a strategist, especially in branding. But the lens in which they view work just isn’t the same. No matter how nice they are.
Im not sure I understand the importance of Strategy. No no, ha ha, just kidding, I actually like Strategists as people, I just dont like showing them work like theyre CDs and giving one more opinion and change that has to happen before stuff goes out the door
