Anyone else deeply over the TikTok-fueled behavior trends? I used to think I could keep up with teen culture, but now it feels like every week comes with a brand new chaos challenge. We’ve had kids fake fainting, slap each other,” and once, an entire class tried to speak in fake British accents for a full week. The bathroom vandalism phase nearly broke our custodial staff. It’s exhausting trying to manage behavior that’s being shaped by an algorithm. What’s the wildest TikTok-inspired trend you’ve seen show up at your school?

I think it was 2019 where the trend was to demolish a school bathroom and stream it live. We had two young men who through they would be internet famous ripping the sink off the wall, taking the pencil sharpener and light switch from my room. Their efforts did not make the TikTok/YouTube trending page and instead got them...umm other attention. As a consequence I was finished with these trend since then.

Most of what I've seen has been pretty trite, and it's kind of depressing to see kids imitating people on an app. Though I guess that's just part of being a kid, we imitated people on TV or in the movies or whatever. It's just that the quality of what gets imitated is so much lower now. The biggest problem we've had has just been kids wanting to create content in the hallways. It's a school, not a sound stage, keep moving along to your next class.
