Back in the olden days, this mean that you had to pick up the phone and keep in touch. Fly in and out every now and then. Make sure you weren’t forgotten.
Nowadays what difference does it make it they’re across the street or in Mexico? I’d say keep in touch over Teams. And make sure you’re at team meetings etc.

This was my thought too. Hoping this is the reality with this particular team!
Junior/Mid-level and lateraled from working at a big law headquarters office with all my team to working in a satellite office without any of my team members. I’m sure it’s personality dependent, but I love it. Nobody knows or cares if I work from home a lot, I avoid painful small talk, forced social events, and being micromanaged. My group is pretty tech savvy and is very used to using Teams these days for just about everything. Sure I have to work a little harder to keep a steady stream of workflow than the associates at the hub but it’s worth it imo. Only major downside I see is if you were gunning for partner, it may present extra challenges to networking and biz development.

Definitely see a lot of pros and cons on the BD and networking side of things. Lots of opportunity if I can make the most of it (and that’s how the position was pitched to me). Just hoping I can make the most of it lol. Also hoping visiting a couple days a month will mitigate any “out of sight/out of mind” effects.

I fucking love it and am never going back. So much flexibility and I’m here for a good time not a long time
I do. I work exclusively for an office that’s 2 hours away. I work from home whenever I want (which is amazing for me), and I get back to the home office at least once a quarter. It’s pretty awesome, actually
Honestly, no downsides. My group (IP) has been amazing. I always feel like a part of the group, and I never feel isolated. I do think fairly regular visits to the office are important, though (like I said, I do once a quarter). And yes, my firm always reimbursed for mileage, parking, etc.!

I do about a third of my work for a partner in another office because he has a good relationship with a senior associate in my office. Never had an issue with him and we're becoming pretty comfortable working together. That said, I have had my time written down/off a couple of times when I worked for different offices though. Those partners were sending me grunt work that their home-grown associates didn't have time for, and I assume they trimmed my time because they didn't have to look me in the eye day after day. I'd assume if you're regularly working for these folks, they'll treat you fairly, but just keep an eye on your stats if you can.
