I would say it really depends on how severe the problems are and if they are things that have a pattern or are surrounding a specific condition. I know a physician who had this problem and they ended up talking to the PA and giving them a bit of education about the whys of certain choices.
I agree with the previous comment. Consider discussing your concerns with the PA. In the event of a legal issue and in the interest of the patient it is important for you and the PA to agree on the plan of care.
Consider establishing weekly dialogues / patient reviews with the PA. Inform the PA you desire to stay abreast regarding each patient’s health status and plan of care.
Therefore, when either of you are on-call or seeing the patient in the offices you will be apprised regarding the patient’s health.
Ask the PA regarding their decision and express your decision-making process. Let the PA know the rationale for opening the lines of communication is to legally protect both of you.
In every field of work there are individuals who received the necessary training, skills and education. On the opposite side, in every field of work there are individuals who did not receive the necessary training, skills and education. However, it is possible for the individuals who are lacking to learn and develop the necessary knowledge; if they are willing to learn.
Depends….is it just a variation of practice? Or something that is a gross deviation in standards? Is it something that is simply a matter of a different approach? Or that you prefer it that way?
Agree
Explain your concerns and see if they are willing to make some changes. If they are not willing to make changes, then you may need to speak to the hiring staff.
