The hours I’m working right now to meet a deadline are extreme, I’m only getting a few hours of sleep a night. How do you keep yourself alert during that final push?

A lot of coffee and red bull, it is harmful to health, yes, but I feel that if I do not meet my time goals and die of a sudden heart attack, then better safe than wrong.

The problem with hours like that is the quality and quantity of your work will diminish fast. Management can't rework the deadline? Either way, I'm sorry you're dealing with that! Lots of coffee, water, and reminding yourself that you're almost there.

Coffee works in the short term, but it's actually really a bad idea to let yourself get sleep deprived. Not only does it do a number on your productivity, but it's been linked to a lot of health problems and it's seriously dangerous. So yeah, a few nights here and there isn't a really big deal, but I hope you're not doing it too often!

Music is really helpful to me because it helps me get and stay in that zone where I can drown out other sensory input and really concentrate on whatever I need to do. If I start feeling like I'm going to doze off I will do a few jumping jacks, that usually does the trick.

I've been there so many times! As difficult as it is, I've had to learn to set boundaries so that my bosses know they don't own me. If I were in business for myself that might be different, but trust me: no job is worth that amount of stress for any prolonged period.
