Hey fellow attorneys! I am a second year attorney who has recently accepted a job within a firm that I am absolutely ecstatic about. However, my first year of practice was highly supervised and I was given no cases of my own (Always worked the cases with major supervision and micromanaging by partners in my previous firm). I am worried about being able to do solo cases individually and whether I know enough to be in charge of cases. Anyone else experienced this? Or have any advice? Thank you!

I’m not sure where to put this, but could use some advice. When do you know it’s time to start taking control of some of the decisions your aging parents make and how do you initiate that conversation? Additionally, once I decide I need to step in, are there legal forms that need filled out? Any advice is appreciated!

Just received an interview offer for an outpatient position at a hospital and I've interviewed and am still awaiting a decision on the inpatient position. Does that mean that I may have not been selected or that they're unaware I applied for 2 positions? Is that something I should mention or not?
I have a year of experience in recruiting but I am looking to transition into the Talent Development/Organizational Development space in the industry. Would a Masters degree in I/O or OD be better for this? I would love any advice on this!

When I ask my manager for advice about how to do something, he usually just tells me I'll "figure it out yourself." But when it comes down to it, he doesn't help me at all by doing that—he just makes me feel like an idiot. And then when I do figure it out myself and bring the answer back to him, he won't even look at it! He'll just say something like "Oh yeah, thank you," and give me another assignment.

I've been working remotely for a year now, and I'm still not sure how to deal with it. My family is all in one place, so I don't see them as much anymore. My friends are scattered all over the country, so it's hard to meet up with them outside of work events or conferences. And my coworkers? Well… let's just say that they don't understand why I'm not sitting in an office with them every day.
Sometimes people ask why I love being an engineer. I always say that technological innovation is amazing! If we can use technology to make our lives easier, then why not?

A lot of coffee and red bull, it is harmful to health, yes, but I feel that if I do not meet my time goals and die of a sudden heart attack, then better safe than wrong.
The problem with hours like that is the quality and quantity of your work will diminish fast. Management can't rework the deadline? Either way, I'm sorry you're dealing with that! Lots of coffee, water, and reminding yourself that you're almost there.
Coffee works in the short term, but it's actually really a bad idea to let yourself get sleep deprived. Not only does it do a number on your productivity, but it's been linked to a lot of health problems and it's seriously dangerous. So yeah, a few nights here and there isn't a really big deal, but I hope you're not doing it too often!
Music is really helpful to me because it helps me get and stay in that zone where I can drown out other sensory input and really concentrate on whatever I need to do. If I start feeling like I'm going to doze off I will do a few jumping jacks, that usually does the trick.
I've been there so many times! As difficult as it is, I've had to learn to set boundaries so that my bosses know they don't own me. If I were in business for myself that might be different, but trust me: no job is worth that amount of stress for any prolonged period.
