I'm lucky. I park my bike right next to my desk.
I do have an Apple AirTag hidden on the bike. If it walks away, I will know where it is.
My phone alerts me every time I'm walking through the grocery store that I left my bike behind.
Well, to avoid people using AirTags to stalk folks without their permission, the AirTag will alert them when they get "home" that they are being tracked by a tag, not associated with their Apple ID.
That gives them the ability to find and disable the AirTag. Hopefully, I would already know where it is.
But, here is the rub--an AirTag locating a stolen item is not "probable cause" enough for the police to act. You can call them and tell them you know your bike is in THAT house and they cannot legally do anything about it.
A buddy of mine had his laptop stolen. He had an AirTag in the laptop bag, so he had the address where they took it. The police could not even go to the door and ask. So...
My buddy paid a couple of burley guys he met at a bar to stand behind him, while HE knocked on the door and asked for his laptop. He got it back with no issue. LOL
Luckily, my bike is only locked outside, if I'm at the store or an event of some sort. At work and at home, it stays inside. And I also have a lock with a guarantee to replace my bike if it is stolen while using said lock (hopefully, I never have to try and collect on that).
