I tend to overwork myself and it’s really taking a toll on my mental well-being. I want to learn a lot and prove myself to my superiors so that they recognize me/see value. Now my work has a sense of dread to it. I watched my parents be workaholics growing up, so it’s all I know. I’m also goal-oriented and driven, so achieving a lot scratches that itch for me. But, it’s making me want to quit cause I’m burned out and depressed….im not sure what to do. Any suggestions would be helpful.

Me, for years! I really recommend the book that’s a Guide to Intuitive Eating. I struggled with BED for years and it only ended when I stopped ever attempting to diet. I have a rule with myself that I will never diet again in my life, for any circumstance. I realized that absolutely any thought of restrictions ultimately causes me to binge, so stopping all restricting forever is what I needed to do. The first 2 weeks were a bit bingey because for the first time I could do whatever I want (which frightened me!) but then everything plateaued. To be honest I haven’t dieted or binged (for the first time in 10 years) for 6 whole months now, and I haven’t gained a single pound and my skin is infinitely better as well. My meal intake went up but my binging went down and I feel so free. Feel free to DM me if you want to chat :)

Understanding what’s driving it, recognizing your intent to distract, learning how to feel emotions, meditation and exercise.
The feeling and emotion part was the hard part for me. They are there and don’t go away. Eating didn’t really help. Learning how to work through them and accept where I was was a challenging, but rewarding journey. I’m not perfect, still backslide on occasion, but learning to stop, pause and recognize and allow uninterrupted time to feel without judgment was certainly a huge part of healing.
Wellbutrin.
Honestly riding momentum was huge for me, so take advantage of a good day or tell yourself that just one good day is all you need to have. Learning how to be secure with the amount of food you have, there is always more you can always go back for more if you’re full. Limiting the number of hours in the day that you eat (IF essentially) You might still overeat before the end cutoff but it helps with midnight binging which can be associated with shame and perpetuates the cycle. Intuitive eating/don’t deprive or punish yourself or starve yourself after a binge and then slowly ween off of grazing all day. Glass of water before eating any meal. mindfulness and meditation. Therapy. Medication.
