I lived in nova (northern VA, 10 min from DC) for a couple years. I enjoyed DC - the city is beautiful and it's awesome being by the monuments and museums. Not depending on having a car was important and fun for me, and rarely inconvenient. I'm new to Phoenix but can answer any other questions you have
I liked it. I remember reading Arlington is most millennials per Capita in the country and you get the pros and cons of lots of young people and lots of gentrification. Here, the nature is awesome, winter weather can't be beat, and even hotter people.
Sense of community in Raleigh I hear is really great...Phoenix is so large that you don't feel that sometimes.
i’m from north carolina — the raleigh suburbs — and love it! the state is gorgeous. i loved being 2 and a half ish hours from beaches and 3 hours from mountains. raleigh is a small, lively city with great food and culture. just so many nooks of international communities, great small businesses, etc. i also adore the small towns all around the state. if you like city life, charlotte is better. if you’re more of a small town fan, being near raleigh is awesome.
i think the raleigh has been thriving for years and there’s no signs of it stopping. great for families or young people. tons of places to escape in nature too, even close to charlotte/raleigh. beautifully kept trails, greenways, lakes, etc.
only here in AZ temporarily before moving back to NC and i can’t wait to be back. couldn’t say enough great things about the state as a whole.
Lived in Charleston SC and AZ has way more opportunities and better infrastructure

I’d jump at a chance to live in the DC Metro area for a few years. I don’t think I’d want to make it my forever home, but there’s so much to see and do and experience there, and there’s so many cool cities up and down the coast that you can get to quickly and easily. If you’re the type that likes to get out and do, I’d jump at it. If you’re just going to sit at home and game or Netflix every night, maybe not.
