Anyone here have experience going back to consulting in their 40s?

I have 15+ years of experience in oil & gas and am considering returning to that sector. I’m currently in banking, working in performance improvement roles, but thinking about making the switch back.

Would love to connect with others who’ve done something similar or are thinking about it.

If you come with the connections and the expertise, awesome. You are outside of the traditional track so make sure you understand your promo process.

I think you need to be judicious on where you go. If I was to go back I would only go to A&M. AP is also a consideration. MBB is too young and you would feel out of place. Plus unless you’re a rain maker, you would be brought in as a EM at best. It’s a little different with Big4. You would probably want to come in as a MD, but unless you were a SM at Big4 that might be too hard of a row to hoe.

Yes. Quite successfully. Was a consultant before so I knew the game and what to expect. It’s never too late

Sure

Sure did! Moved back to consulting as individual contributor. I embraced the work and had no people management experience. Ten years on I am Chief of Staff responsible for 100 people. Mindset is everything IMO. Right place, right time helps but you can create your own future. It’s never too late.

Can/should I represent myself (or in other words do not hire a buyer’s agent) when buying a new construction? Will I get the 3% that would have gone to the buyer’s agent, that i can put towards closing cost?
