Anyone here (or anyone you know) move to a smaller city for your spouse’s work and had to give up Biglaw? About to do that and I’m feeling extremely conflicted. And yes my spouse makes more than me so money/lifestyle changes won’t be an issue, but I can’t help feeling like I’m about to lose a part of myself and that terrifies / depresses me.

I would be shocked if they won’t let you work remotely. It’s very common especially under these circumstances.

You can also tell your spouse you’re not willing to move. It’s OK to say no to following someone else’s job.

Do you have enough experience in that niche to either bring in the work or handle it independently/expand if someone else can source or cross sell? Mid size firms love to sell big law expertise for mid size rates, and that could be a great path to partnership for you if you have the right platform/support team.
