Are there any government contractors in here? Curious to know what you do, how you like it, etc.

I've been a government contractor for 12 of the past 13 years. Some have been good, and some bad. Depends on the customer you contract for and how "stable" the contract is, as to whether you have to worry about shut downs and contract transition and such. The pay is better than on the fed side, but you usually don't have the back-end benefits you can get if you do the full course to retirement as a fed. I do budgeting and forecasting, and have bounced around a few companies the past few years when I was capped at the pay for my slot, or capped position wise. Some companies and contracts can allow for more growth than others, so just make sure and look at the big picture, company wise, as well as career path wise as well.

I've been a contractor for almost 12 years, mainly supporting DoD with a brief stint at FBI and HHS doing PM and Acquisition work. Overall, it's a well paid industry. However, I've had my fair share of transitions, everything from stop work orders, challenging clients and projects with high turnover etc. The main challenge I find in this industry is that it's rare to find a company that will keep you on the bench (i.e. pay you from overhead) if your project ends. Typically, you're on your own unless they have other contracts to place you. Also, something that's really important these days that many companies don't offer is severance pay. I have to admit for as rough as the tech layoffs have been for many job seekers, at least those companies and other large companies in banking, finance etc, were generous enough to pay their employees severance. Good luck finding defense contractors that will do that.

I love it 7 years. I learn a great deal and pay/benefits are awesome. You have to find a contractor that works look at there salary trends
and benefits package in advance. I would never accept a contract and not review benefits first.

For those of you with high-functioning anxiety/depression/PTSD/OCD and similar diagnosed disabilities, how do you cope? What sorts of work accommodations do you receive or where have you found the best working environment? Is government a good place to be? I’ve heard about “big companies” being good being thrown around as a general idea but I don’t trust anyone enough in HR at my “big company” to disclose anything to them. Thank you so much in advance.

Anyone been able to work from Dubai for a UK/US firm and benefit from no taxes? I know if you are a US citizen you pay taxes where you are globally, but if you are British, then you only pay income tax on UK income - so if you live more than half the year abroad you are classed as non-domicile resident, but wanted to hear if anyone’s done this or heard about it?

Lately, I've been hearing a lot from my peers about how sales isn't a real profession.
I work at a tech startup and it mostly comprises developers. They can't stop emphasizing their importance in the food chain and I can't figure if I'm too humble or they're too arrogant.
This yapping comes from people I've known since college. I have successfully blocked all such negativity but wanted to know if anyone here has faced such scenarios.
P.S: I've already accepted an offer above my expectations

Negotiation in new offer: I’m moving from fully remote to fully in office (with chance of hybrid later) offer for associate director in quality in pharma for 170k base, 18% bonus and 75k equity. I’ve asked for a sign on bonus as I’m not eligible for annual next year and will be missing my current jobs bonus. I should hear tomorrow (asking for 28k). Thoughts about the offer? Should I ask for more equity or is that standard? They’re public (currently ~$20)should I get the hybrid option in writing?

Current student looking for advice. I interned at RBC Wealth Management last summer and currently have 2 offers for summer 2023 that require a decision next week: 1 for BASF (chemical manufacturing) and 1 for Peraton (defense technology); I am also waiting to hear back from SMBC (S&T), Point72, Lord Abbett, Boeing, and Shell. I hope to break into banking next summer, and I’m interested in the Natural Resources, Industrials, and Real Estate industry groups. Any advice on what to do? Thanks!
