As a Legal Biller, our bonuses are usually no more than a few thousand dollars and raises are only enough to offset the increase of medical costs. Billers are always treated like peasants even though we are the ones who make sure the money keeps coming in. I've worked at a few firms over the last 8 years, and it's the same everywhere- Billers always get the short end of the stick. So I'm curious to know- what do associates and partners get for bonuses and raises, and how often?

Do most firms start reporting years in September or January? Prior firm did an August year for counting hours and then another did January (both Amlaw 200). Looking at an Amlaw 100 to lateral in the fall (so trying to anticipate how much of the year I’ll have). I’ll ask what bonus/reporting year but just curious if most follow the same.

I wasn’t sure which bowl to solicit advice from so hoping to catch a bite here. I’m currently in ID. Of course, I want OUT! My interests are L&E and corporate. My options are 1) wait it out where I am in hopes to switch to L&E or 2) in house oil and gas industry transactional work. What would you do and why?
