We usually get at least three a year. Sometimes more because of ice than snow.
We often seem to be the last district in the ISD to call it so I have to get up, shower, dress, wait and see. And sometimes we don't call it and I drive through about 3 closed districts to get to my open one.
We have a lot of students who walk so on the bad days that we have school, attendance is low and instruction has to be repeated when more kids are there.

We typically get 3, some years we’ve had 5. Sometimes it’s a ‘cold day’ but can be a snow day too. It also depends on the bus route and how they’re looking. Superintendent calls it w her team, each building has a staff phone chain for snow days. We typically hear before it hits the local news.
Not many snow days, just extreme cold days, we go virtual, no days off.

Wow, when does your school year end?
I live in Tennessee, and for some reason the people around here freak out at the tiniest bit of snow. If we even a flurry outside then normally they close schools over it. It usually amounts to maybe 8 days per year, maybe less.

I have heard the South is like that.
We usually don't know if we're having a snow day until the morning of. It doesn't happen often. The most I remember it happening one year was 5.
I now teach Florida, but grew up in Pennsylvania.
Our Florida hurricane days are the same as the northern snow days
We have five built into our school year calendar.
We have been lucky, we only had to use one day this year & two last year.

Wow, I was wondering that! I think the planned days help for sure.
We’ve had two 2 hour delays this year but no cancellations yet. We only have one day built in. We usually have 1 or 2 snow days per year. We don’t go virtual because some families don’t have internet access. We’re currently having some really cold temperatures but we still have school, just indoor recesses. 🤪
I spoke too soon, snow day today! Unfortunately that means we’ve lost our four day weekend in February because our make up day is the Friday before Presidents’ Day.
If the busses can make it through the rural snow drifts, we have school. If not, snow day. The other cancellation is for -20 without windchill. This makes mornings of -19 with a howling wind very unpleasant.
We had a snow day last Friday and might have one tomorrow. We usually average about 2 per year.
We have 3 snow days built in. However with virtual learning the new norm, we don't get the day off anymore. We still sign in, and students are expected to do likewise. The joy of snow ❄️ days are sadly gone.

I don't know what the balance is there. I would want to use the days and then turn to virtual.
