If he's being investigated, these write ups are clear retaliation which is illegal and should be made null and void.
As always, I remind you that HR is NOT on your side. Their one and only job is to protect the company.
Having said that, he should IMMEDIATELY contact HR (and be sure to document EVERY conversation with them) and express his concern that this manager is retaliating against him. Did he sign the write-up? Never sign a write-up you disagree with, and it should have an area to write a response. Especially in a case like this, use it.
Not signing a write up doesn’t change anything. That said, everything else is 100%.
Has anyone reached out about that 3rd interview, and was it already scheduled? If the write-up gets brought up, I’d definitely have a professional way of discussing it. There are issues outside of his control, and he’s excited about this new opportunity.
I would encourage your husband to speak to human resources and let them know what's going on and how retaliatory you feel the writeup was. They can't reasonably expect everybody to suffer just because of one person who is actively being investigated.
