OMEGA INCREASED THEIR PRICES OH NOOOOOOOOOO
My one and only

Any Breitling fans out there?

Where do you buy vintage watches?
Loving the green

Thoughts on a Omega De Ville Prestige as a first luxury watch? Would be ~$7.5K USD at retail. Some friends have said great things about Omega as a starter, whereas others say it’s not worth it over a Rolex Oyster Perpetual (which would be similar in cost).
I personally love how clean the design is, the use of gold, and the thinner band as it links the watch … find the Rolex band design to be too chunky.

I bought a watch from a high end brand from an AD that ended up having a small finishing defect on the movement. I wasn’t sure they’d do anything about it, because it was minor, but when I went back and told the AD they got in touch with the brand and insisted on sending me an entirely new watch. No way Jomashop would have done any of that - I would have had a watch that is supposed to have perfect finishing but that actually had a minor defect.
I actually do think there is a place for Jomashop, even at a high-ish price point, but not once a cosmetic issue would majorly impact your enjoyment of a watch. In my case it would have turned out badly.
Also want to echo the above people who said (1) JLC 8 year warranty is worth something more than typical, and (2) AD may come down more in price if you haven’t already negotiated much with them yet

I got the AD down to $10K. Thanks folks!

Assuming used at an AD?

Yep.

What is the watch? In these circumstances, you can usually negotiate a discount with the AD and get pretty close.
Which type of grey - are you getting box/papers/factory warranty, or is it like a Jomashop where you get the grey warranty in lieu of the manufacturer’s? Wouldn’t buy from the latter at this price point.

Which watch? You probably won’t need the warranty but if you do, id rather go through the manufacturer than Jomashop, especially for a watch at that price point.
Have you tried negotiating the price at an AD, or looking at a grey dealer that would sell with the original warranty?
What is the watch though??

I would try to get a discount from the AD or buying used with warranty intact before considering Jomashop. I was offered a 15% discount on a Reverso without much effort mid-2021 (not sure if market has changed.) The JLC 8-year warranty is significant.
Out of curiosity, how does buying from an AD in another country (at a better price) effect the warrantee? I usually go that route on Chrono24.
Yeah, for sure. That's always been the assumption so I've never actually looked into it.
Basically if it's cheaper at the AD (Rolex, AP, Patek, etc.) I try to get it from the AD/boutique. Otherwise I buy secondhand.
It doesn't build purchase history though, so if you're trying to do so, gotta make some calculation of how much above retail you're paying to get the pieces that trade above retail and how much purchase history that'd require. I've also put in orders at the boutiques to avoid playing some of the AD games
