NY - TX (ATX)

No regrets!

like

A3 just learn to make your own. Everything else about TX is pretty good. If anything, getting out of NY is a good balance. I miss it but I also learned a lot by leaving.

Dallas is cookie cutter America. Everything else is Texas.

Simply put, everything you like about Bay Area, you won’t get in Texas. Everything you don’t like about Bay Area, you wont have to face in Texas.

Comparing one city in CA to the whole state of Texas is a pretty clueless. There are many very intelligent articles written recently contrasting Bay Area to Austin, since that is where many tech firms are moving.

Don’t pack your bags and do a road trip- so boring. Dollar goes far in TX - you will feel rich.

like

Please don’t move to Austin. We’re full 😭

So no income taxes but what’s the catch? I can’t afford to live in CA so I’m thinking of making the move to TX

like

^ this response is why people say Austin and Texas is full

I made the move; no regrets.

Yeah, there’s no Santa Monica, but most of California isn’t that either (Bakersfield, Fresno...).

Dallas is fine.

Obviously there are plenty of nice places, but my point is that an awful lot of the population lives in places like Riverside, Stockton, and Redding.

People think the only California is coastal California, and that’s just not the case.

like

what part of CA to what part of TX?

This is actually a pretty important question. I’m not from TX but I lived in multiple parts of it, and traveled all over; Dallas, Fort Worth, El Paso, Austin, Temple, College Station, Waco, Houston, Corpus Christie.

None of them are truly alike. And I would venture to guess that people who say they are haven’t seen enough of the US (and TX in this case) outside of city bar scenes to compare.

like

Austin is the only big city in TX that comes remotely close in style to CA so visit and see what you think. Houston and Dallas are super boring cities

I don’t think Austin is big. It’s overcrowded and the city cannot keep up with the growth. Great place to visit though.

I have to agree with Booz and PWC, Houston is a great city with a lot to offer.

SEA -> ATL, best choice of my life. I can buy whatever I want, the laws are so much better, and I prefer the people.

We’re full.

How about NY -> NC? Any inputs ?

9 months in - no regrets. Wealthier, healthier and happier.

Got offered 68k after 2 years as a contractor (62.5k) doing project management/business admin in a tech department at a Fortune 500 bank. I have an A.S degree and working on my bachelor’s/masters may 2024. I negotiated to 84k NYC. I have seen interns get offered 38 per hour (79k) for internship positions with a similar role.

Thoughts? Should I go higher? I do my job well that’s why they decided to keep me as a contractor after my internship.

Currently staying in Hoboken NJ. My rent isn’t high but the apartment is old and don’t really have a lot of friends. With COVID and most of our future being WFH. Am considering moving to a low COL area.
Any suggestions , with a lot of 25-30 year olds around.
Hopefully, I can find a good apartment, don’t mind renting something with a backyard.
Would definitely like a place with better weather. Pretty much open to anywhere in the US.

Our firm told everyone no bonuses this year due to the pandemic. However, people like myself with high utilization received a “bonus” in terms of a gift card. My director notified me of this, but the other day my boss was mentioning how no bonuses this year really sucks. I was told by the director to not mention it to anyone but I figured if anyone knew I got one it’d be my boss. I feel super uncomfortable now because do I essentially lie to my boss because I’m not supposed to talk about it.
