For most cases what matters most is criminal records. So, background checks usually look at basics like identity, work history, education, and criminal records. Some roles also include credit checks or drug screens. A friend of mine was super anxious about being laid off right before onboarding, but it didn’t affect anything, layoffs aren’t the same as terminations “for cause.” If you’ve already accepted an offer, chances are you’re in the clear as long as what you shared checks out.
There might be some different cases out there, but generally speaking they are verifying all the information you provided. Working dates, education, criminal check. The only impact I would see is if somebody was terminated for stealing, gross misconduct, something that's a big no-no would be a problem.
