Is Google the end game?
I’ve put myself up for L4 promo this cycle. Assuming I get it, what would be the best next steps to optimize for long-term growth/TC?
My understanding is that L5->L6 is extremely painful at Google. It may be easier to leave for a handful of years and gain managerial experience before returning.
L4->L5 is less challenging; however, I’m under the impression I can do this quicker at another company (if I leave after being freshly promo’d) AND get higher TC.

Originally, worked Job A.
Then, started at Job B, while taking 2 weeks of PTO from Job A to be sure it wasn’t a mistake leaving.
Came back from PTO at Job A and realized I was able to swing both Job A and Job B without issue. High performer in both roles. Have been promoted in both roles.
The concern now is that if I leave Job B, my background check is going to ping Job A and Job B, where it would show I am currently employed by both.

G1 that’s fair advice, and I will definitely do that. but at worst, its breach of contract and termination. It’s not illegal like “prison time”.
