Current mid-level at V5.

My supervising partner and mentor recently left my initial V50 firm to help build out a newer office of another V50 firm and wants me to join. I’m not very happy at V5 firm. The culture and relationship in the in the group is cold.

The trade seems to be prestige and hypothetical open doors if I wanted to go in house vs. a lifestyle upgrade, trusting partners, BD opportunity as a midlevel and a true path to partnership. Comp appears equal.

What am I missing?

General corporate in NY looking to lateral into tech transactions at one of the EC/VC firms. I’ve heard that I may get a class cut if I make the move but I’m ok with that. My worry is that EC/VC firms are crazy busy work differently from general corp, I also won’t have control over my hours, and potentially worse based on how billing differs (block billing on a few clients vs having to work with 15 or more startups). Is the same true for tech trans or IP group?

Anyone work in tech and blockchain? What exactly do you do?

Is it a big deal if a partner questions how much time you spent on something? Can’t they just write off time that seems excessive, or am I missing something?
