How would you rank different levels in Consulting in terms of difficulty?

If I'm applying to a firm as a second year and the application requires a writing sample, would it be better to attach a brief I wrote in law school, or a brief written during my limited practice, which was revised by both a senior associate and shareholder?

I am not finding a lot of stuff written for lawyers specifically , but there is a lot directed at “managers” in business generally that I imagine could be applicable.

I’m in this business to cure my inferiority complex. Making lots of money, working with fortune 500 clients and walking the streets of NYC with a suit, tie and briefcase makes me feel important and worthy.

I often wish I could be like my law school friends who either moved to small towns or have public sector or non profit jobs, wear sweaters and jeans to work and make far less than me, but are happy with their lives, feel a sense of meaning with their work and don’t need external validation.

What does it mean if there’s a NEP at the firm who’s been there for a long time (20+ years), but never got promoted to EP? Never held leadership roles too. Does it usually mean EPs does not like the NEP enough to get promoted?

I’ve asked for work but no luck. I know they say this is normal for a stub but when should I start getting worried and consider looking for exit options? After you are stealth laid off, other than job search, what do you do? I assume they won’t give you work and even if they do, you can politely decline? How do you feel about you are not progressing anymore and seeing other people progressing in their career? I have no intention to make partner, but still feel a bit stuck not doing that much.
