Defendant is asking a sexual harassment settlement go 30% W-2, 70% 1099 (and cut the check 3 ways, two to my client, 1 to me for fees). While I hear this is the norm in employment law, I want to make sure it’s my client benefiting from a tax perspective and not the defendant. My fear with defendant cutting the check to me directly for attorney fee is that the IRS might say it’s not really my client paying the fee (because my understanding is that fees for discrimination are deductible. Thoughts?

our marketing dept is undergoing a complete overhaul. under old leadership, a $75k 12-mo contract was signed to a marketing group that handles our SEO, blog and everything Google Ads. All things I can and am in training to do. Current CTRs on G ads seem pitiful at no more than 0.75%. My meta ads coast around 4-6%. During this overhaul, would it be wise to not renew our contract, and negotiate for me to take over these roles and leverage a raise?

Got pulled from litigating MVAs to help this solo we hired start a med Mal/nursing home practice. 1 year in and it looks like I’m two steps backwards in terms of getting paid because we’re a year or more out from a lot of the fees hitting. I see CJL offers an incentive+ base but I’m curious about that structure.
Any good or bad firm culture to speak of?
Is it impossible to actually earn a respectable incentive bonus?
Am I going to have some partner come cut me out of any cases where I might actually make a solid fee?

I’m a 3L applying in NYC for post grad employment. Which plaintiffs PI/Med firms have the best opportunities for a junior? Everything I find, including my past summer job, is a small shop with 3 partners max and a handful of established associates. I would really like plaintiffs side.

What's your preference for plaintiff's side? Steady pay at approximately $120k with no bonuses, or a base salary of $70k plus a cut of what you close over a minimum threashold? Midwest-ish market. In both situations, you get a cut of what you bring in.

What % of settlements do you take home as an associate? Trying to gauge what I should be seeking in my next contract. Currently at 3% split prorated with all handling attys. Is this normal?
