Vaccine development in <1year

like

It was a proof of concept for mRNA vaccines, so probably yes. On another note Oxford just published results for a good Malaria vaccine.

A few that analysts are keen on:
-mRNA vaccines (duh)
-The KRAS inhibitor data from Amgen seems like a pretty strong bet for “next wave” of meaningful oncology innovations
-Lp(a) as a target in cardiovascular (Novartis)
-Humira biosimilars coming to the US in 2023 will be pretty fascinating to watch how the market responds
-Off the shelf CAR T hopefully coming in the next 5 yrs
-CVS, Amazon, etc moving into the provider space (not just pharmacy)

Is this research for your next Megatrends?

Haha....nah. Just for my curiosity. Would love to hear from folks in the field directly

The sheer number of vaccines that were developed so rapidly is definitely a big one and the mRNA technology.

Healthcare delivery is also seeing some significant change that is accelerated by Covid.
-more integrated devices and data from wearables and the platforms are being set for more implantable devices
-partnerships between pharmacies and platforms like CVS and Doordash could have a massive ripple effect
-multi-dose packaging and other methods to drive adherence
-improved pricing transparency on drugs
-point of care changes be it the expansion of Minute Clinics and WalMart Health clinics as well as on demand care via platforms like Amazon Care
-telehealth and telemedicine

Ultimately life sciences and healthcare will see more convergence and new models will start to emerge. The entry of big tech will ramp things up on the physical side as well as technology.

Recently hired Patent Agent and wanted to know if I am being fairly compensated and utilized. Training lasted a couple days where I immediately got assigned to draft +2 patent applications and +1 office action responses each week. Have no experience with 3D modeling programs so drawing diagrams and figures take a long time too. TOC < 80k and no annual bonus.

What is one of the most frustrating parts of being a scientist or researcher?

I'll tell you what it is: referencing!

You have to do so much of it, and it's so annoying. You have to cite your sources, but there are so many different formats for citations! And then sometimes you don't even know how to cite something, and how are you supposed to know that unless you ask someone who knows? And even then, they might not be sure whether it should be an in-text citation or a footnote…

So i have been fortunate that i have managed to go through my career without the need for a degree. I was lucky enough to have been hired by one of the worlds top consulting firms, worked with a whole lot of big clients and travelled a lot. It's gotten to the point where I am not even asked about the lack of a degree on my resume. Personally though, it bothers me. I have a whole bunch of certifications in my industry…but just no formal degree. (cont'd)
