Disappointing Experience at Doane GT: No Balance, No Support

Some team members are supportive, but the cons outweigh the pros. Flex days are now only for those who hit target hours, which defeats the purpose. There’s constant work shortage, making chargeable hour targets impossible. Managers focus on numbers, not mentorship. No work-life balance. Continuous staff layoffs add more stress. As clients leave and profits decline, unrealistic goals pile on. The system is broken.

Sounds like a firm boosting its metrics and shopping itself around. Hang in there; maybe you can be absorbed into GT US

More focus on chargeable hours and less on developing people is spoken across many public accounting firms these days.

Shifting work to overseas while pushing US workers to be in the office is interesting approach.

People talk about having less work and then being penalized for it by either not getting promoted or being laid off.

I like my work in public and my clients but having constant pressure of hitting chargeable hours and expectations are becoming a turn off.

I know the grass seems always greener on the other side yet I am starting to reassess my short term and long term goals to see if that needs to have a different path.

Can anyone speak about smaller local firms, how is it there? From what I read, the main disadvantages are lack of available resources, perks. Anything else? I am contemplating of leaving large PA firm and going to work for a smaller local one. Could anybody share their experiences?

Sorry for undermining the author of the post.

Anyone have advice for talking to teachers in your school that are upset with you?
My 4th grade class didn’t show up today because the teachers are upset that student behaviors that are an issue in music are carrying over to their classroom. I understand their frustration, but nothing was communicated with me. I even thought things were going better this week.

This track usually leads to director of revenue. Offer 2 - internal audit staff so SOX and compliance projects.
