Are you thinking about leaving before your term is over? If so, that is a conversation for you and your judge to have. The judge may he flexible.
I would strongly advise not to burn any bridges because you never know what may happen in the future, and future employers would probably wana hear from your judge about your work ethic/product. But if you really don't care about bridges, then you technically can leave whenever you want. There's no contract in clerkships
I’d advise giving notice in case your federal/state system has consequences for not doing so (bar on future hires, on an employment record that someone may ask about down the line). This is especially the case in the federal system—it could impact your employment in other agencies.
You can probably couch your notice in a way that’ll make them cut you loose sooner rather than after a full notice period.
