Looking for advice on career change. I’m a 45 year old single mom - I’ve been at my job for 18 years. I know I could be doing more. The job isn’t fulfilling and the workplace is rather toxic. The pay is pretty good - when I look at other open positions in my field / the pay is much less or the same. Honestly just unsure of what I “want” to do. Stay where I am and get a side hustle that may be fulfilling or change careers altogether. I’m a placement coordinator at a home care agency.

How does everyone cope with the quilt of leaving a job even though it’s best for you?
My job is understaffed and I feel like I’ll be leaving them down even though my mental health can’t take it anymore.

Are you aware of the CPA exam credit extension to 2021 for NY CPA candidates impacted by COVID19? It’s on a person-by-person basis and you need to request the extension. Has anyone tried doing this yet? Can anyone shine more light on this? Do large law firms really recieve enough applications for a position that they cannot follow up when someone reaches out to check on thier application? I get that if you have to reach out, they probably weren't interested anyways, I'm just curious why there is a practice of just leaving applicants in the wind. And also, how does one go about finding out why they were rejected, if thier qualifications are "impressive"?

Conflicted 2nd Year Associate here. I generally like my firm but obviously hate the practice of law (biglaw). I've been offered a fairly generous comp package to take a non-attorney compliance role with a FAANG company. While there is a modest base pay cut, the total comp (sign on + annual bonus + options) beats where I'm at now and probably will be better than Cravath-scale (including bonus) through at least Year 4. Since I know I'll bail for in-house anyway, should I go now or wait?

Does anyone here suffer from bipolar disorder? How do you manage it and working in law? I see a therapist, and a psychiatrist, and am on medication, but I still have days where I wake up and I’m so depressed I can’t move. I’m working on remedying this with my doctors, but how does one approach mental health issues with their employer? I never felt the need to until I realized how much being bipolar can affect my ability to work.

I was just talking to a younger friend who goes to Cal and It seems like the kids these days hate FAANG or at least Amazon and Facebook are not desired at all. I personally don’t see too many issues working at either Amazon or Facebook because I work at Deloitte where I’m sure we have many questionable clients and worked in financial services before. Curious on whether people are thinking about the ethics of their exit company when deciding to move?

Is leaving consulting as a senior, with 2 YOE, too soon? When is a “good” time to exit, in your opinion? I ask because I’ve heard senior is good, and I’ve heard manager is the latest you should stay before diminishing exit returns (anecdotal)

I met all the check marks every appraisal cycle but still I was given the same reason every year. Need book of business or sales experience. Finally, I’m out of that cycle. I’m joining one of the FAANG!
