Do companies generally low ball attorneys transitioning to in-house from boutique or mid-sized firms as opposed to attorneys that transition from big law? Or are offers from a comp standpoint relatively equal across the board?

Not in my experience. I think a rude awakening for many biglaw attorneys is the realization that in house hiring doesn’t care about the high salary they’re leaving behind. In my experience, the range is agnostic to the size of the firm you’re coming from and is more dependent on experience level.

And the role is slotted at a particular level/pay band at the company so there is only so much flexibility

Not in my options. The salaries they were quoting were just lower in general for big law, and they know that. It’s expected if you come from big law you’ll take a pay cut. I’m mid law and my salary actually increased with no billable.

No, we generally low ball everyone.

At my company, they did. My coworkers came from small firms or small companies and make significantly less than I do.

Strategy Analyst at a corporate -> IT DD/ODD at EYP -> Strategy Consulting at the same firm

Detour or shortcut, my goal is to be in strategy consulting. Is it better to just wait for a couple more years and then go directly into strategy consulting? Are IT DD and ODD experience viewed favourably by strategy consultants?

Sinple advise those who are waiting for SA promotion... whatever package u r getting as A you will get only 15% hike for promotion to SA...so it's nt at well worth, Better switch.

NFW- I just had a good laugh. I’m in-house at a small company (60 people), started right out of law school about 5 years ago. We had a legal team of 5 then. Everyone has left and we just hired a new GC. I went from $70k to $100k a little over a year ago. I am expecting an offer from a firm doing business law work but think this might be an opportunity to go to my current employer and ask for a significant raise, with new offer in hand. Any thoughts or advice going into this?
