I liked my recruiter who was also able to stay on my case to make sure I was moving the process forward. It's easy to let things sit when you're still busy at a current job. They were also willing to go forward with a fairly targeted search and listen to the kind of firm I was interested in rather than doing a huge sweep of the market (even though it is in their interest to do so). If I end up deciding to move again in the future I would reach out to the same recruiter.
DM for contact info.
Yes, I recommend me haha
When I was practicing, I had a bad experience where I got ghosted. Not a good feeling.
Otherwise, I can’t think of anything off the top of my head, but there’s definitely some bias there! I’d love to hear about cons from from some other folks.
Im looking to work with a recruiter LR1 and would love your help!
No cons other than sometimes if employers are getting a lot of resumes that look similar, they will choose someone who applied themselves as opposed to through a headhunter (b/c they have to pay the headhunter). However, in this market, firms aren’t getting many resumes and a headhunter will know the inside scoop for firms you may be targeting.
The con of a headhunter is that it may affect your ability to negotiate a salary—the firm may be reluctant to go above their original offer because of the fee they will have to pay the legal recruiter versus if they went with a candidate that came by way of regular application. I also found that working with a headhunter wasn’t best for me since I knew folks at most of the firms I was applying to so I used them for references which made the process move faster for me.
Associate 1 and 2, wrong. Firms don’t go with a lesser candidate to avoid a fee that is made back by a good hire very quickly
I said if they receive many similar resumes. All things being equal, yea, the firm is going to save the money.
Headhunter here but don’t do a ton of lateral work in NYC. Happy to answer any questions you may have about the process. And no, no major firm is worried about the fee and it’s not coming out of your salary either 🙄
I just don’t place a lot of laterals in *NYC* is what I meant…
