What is the in-house interview timeline these days?

Unless the employer is one of the few who is profiting off the pandemic, expect timelines to be slower and more uncertain. Meaning you could start the interview process, and then see it frozen indefinitely. Now more than ever, cast your net widely and don't put your eggs in one basket until you have a firm start date.

If it helps as a reference point, my pre-Corona timelines were 4 months and 3.5 months from resume submission to offer letter at two large publicly traded companies.

like

Pre-corona timeline in my experience was way different. I've switched twice over the past two years and the first was one week, and the second was two days. I guess it widely varies per company and their immediate need.

Double to triple the normal pace.

like

I've interacted with 5 different roles in the last month, including an internal one, 4 of them are technically hiring but on hold indefinitely

I recommend speaking to the recruiter or HR contact. The timelines are company specific. I was hired last year at a Fortune 500 tech company and the process was 1.5 month. The interviews were spaced one week apart and the actual written offer took a while.

I’ve completed my final round and was told that I received positive feedback but the role has been filled. The recruiter says they will keep me in mind for openings within the next 6 months. Has anyone actually landed a job this way?

How/what should I prepare for interview?
Am clueless on what kind of ds & algo questions, system design questions are asked in Amazon interviews.

My techstack: javascript developer- react+Angular. SDE 2

1. Pls guide me on what/how to prepare?
2. Also, will the interview be solely on da & algo and javascript; or on Js frameworks?

As my last agency was falling apart, I started looking for a new job, and per usual, it took a while to find the right fit. I hit the last interview for a job that sounded collaborative, accepted my skills, moved me to “Senior”. But they asked for my salary range and told me they had an interview w/someone else. I wanted the job so much that I think I lowballed at $75k. They immediately accepted. Am I underpaid because I was excited?? (Altho the job is awesome so far.)

2. I want to apply to Microsoft for a Comms Manager role. I am having a hard time on finding the right people to network with for a referral/how to stand out from the crowd.
So if anyone has any tips or people i can talk to would be great!!

I wanted to get people's opinions on leetcode, codewars etc when prepping for interviews. I am a junior full stack dev looking to move to a better paying junior role or a mid role and honestly these style of questions have always stumped me. I have found that in a year of work to have never found them useful in tackling real world issues. Now I'm moving from a junior to a mid can I still expect leetcode style questions?

I work mainly with react, TS, node, graphql, mongoose and mongoDB.

I accepted a verbal offer on Fri. & written offer today, waiting on background check before giving notice. This afternoon my first choice reached out for a 2nd interview (after saying they’d be in touch either way by last Tues. and then hearing nothing). Would it be stupid and/or shady of me to take the interview? I’m excited about the one I accepted so wouldn’t want to withdraw without another offer, but this one would be a title promotion vs. lateral, & a $30K+ raise over the one I accepted.

Additional Posts in In-House Counsel

I like my work and my boss but I keep getting hit up by recruiters offering more money. I know the grass is often not greener. I don’t want to give up a good situation based solely on better pay but it would be awesome to pay off my student loans and buy a house

like

I’m sure this bowl gets a lot of salary questions, so instead I’ll ask: what do you consider the best or most accurate resources for determining whether an in-house offer at a particular company or in a particular industry aligns with the market?

Thank you all! After about a year of on and off searching, and a bunch of posts here, I landed the in house job of my dreams. That’s it, just wanted to say thank you for your help along the way.

I see a lot of posts out there about huge salaries and whatnot, but I can’t help but think the things I do most days don’t really require a law degree and can competently be done by intelligent business minded folks, such as contract drafting/negotiation and strategy development, and as such I am overpaid. After ten years of doing this work, I struggle to define what special attributes I bring to the process since it all seems so simple. Just wondering if anyone shares the same feelings.

Any tips for moving up in a medium/large-sized legal department, aside from switching companies? I work in a collegial environment with plenty of opportunities to create more value, but the management level is fairly crowded and it seems the clearest path to get one of those roles is to be hired into it. What has been your experience? Thanks!

Since moving in house from PP I’ve been astounded at how often business folks want to set up a zoom call to walk through contracts and rewrite language on the fly. Not only is it terribly inefficient, it leaves virtually no time to actually think through things, especially when dealing with long, complicated contracts for things like software purchases. Just wondering if anyone has any good tips for how to politely point out to people how bad of a process that is, assuming others face the same?

I’ve only been practicing for less than 2 years and got an in-house counsel position right out of law school. The only other attorney that is in-house is also leaving and I’m extremely nervous about doing everything on my own. Does anyone have resource recommendations that could guide me as I navigate this position and responsibilities on my own?

like

Could use some perspective from folks here! I joined as in-house counsel from V20 recently. When I interviewed for the position, the hiring manager explained the team structure and broadly gave me a career path in the company. The day I joined I learned of a long term secondee who’s around my same level that they’re planning on bringing in with the exact same job description as me. I feel extremely frustrated and had I known this before joining, I might have made a different decision. Contd.
