Schooling, at least in the States, is broad across categories but leans towards litigation. You typically have choices among various electives courses, which can cover all types of specialties and areas. But most schools require you to take certain fundamental courses, and the bar exam focuses on those.
Gotcha! but if I want to practice law, do I not need any degree?, I can teach thyself? Or is that not recognized? 😕
Oversimplified a bit, but school is general and a job is a job (usually somewhat specific)
I see, Thank you so much for your reply. I appreciate your time and thoughts.
You have to be general your first year, and the next two years you can choose to focus or be general (because you can choose almost all of your classes). I personally hard focusd
It used to be that you could just study the books and if you passed the Bar exam, you were in! However, of late, ABA has toughened up and no longer allows just book study and pass. In California, you have to work for a judge for a few years as well as undergo a host of other requirements to be allowed to take the Bar. Even if you pass the Bar without formal training, you might have a hell of a time getting a job as far as being competitive with those with a JD from an Ivy League school or even a mediocre one. Food for thought and I wish you good luck!
