What’s the best way to turn down a 2nd interview? During the 1st interview, I learned that the compensation for the role is not within the range that I am looking for and requires 400 more billable hours a year than what I bill now. I have a somewhat unsteady, gappy work history due to several health issues — serious ones — that have gotten in the way since I passed the bar. My first major health issue I can easily explain as it’s physical, a major concussion. My other health issues are severe depression that affected my ability to work steadily. Second year associate here. How should I deal with the one partner in my practice group who seems to exclusively give me lousy assignments that we’ll never get paid for? I get great work from everyone else.

I’m so bad at writing the background/ facts section for briefs… it always gets heavily edited and no one is giving me constructive feedback other than “advocate more”. In contrast, my legal argument section is generally without edits. For context, first defense lit job post appellate clerkship. Is this normal?? Any tips for getting better other than “advocating more”?
