Do only Directors+ go to conferences like AWS re:invent and DefCon at most companies? Or is that a big 4 thing? Also, is it frowned upon to pay yourself to go?

My practice says you have to be a Director+ to get approved for cyber conferences. However, I have friends from smaller firms and industry that are going as Senior Associates and Security Engineers.

What's the review process for firms. I have people getting rejected but I haven't heard anything. Is it interviews, offers, rejections? Or is it review/ interview and rejections then offers.

Some recruiter in Accenture lined me up for an interview for a role which was not in my skillset ( by saying that this is just an evaluation exercise and they will map me to the right role) and obviously I got rejected. Now I see that I am not eligible to apply the role which I was targeting for the next 6 months. Senior engineer making 135k and I was offered a promotion to engineering manager after completing a development plan. Near the end of the plan and I expect compensation talks to start soon. Based on some research around Boston and my role in the company, I feel 165k plus 10-15% bonus is fair. Nonetheless, first time going through something like this and asking for thoughts and comments.
