Why wouldn’t you tip in another country? 🤨
Chief
Because not all countries have a custom of tipping. Read up on the customs of the places you visit
Tip like in US
10% is standard in Mexico.
I’d tip, especially if going to the same place more than once.
I found that when I stayed at an all inclusive resort in Cancun and returned to the same restaurants and bars, after tipping the waitstaff they treated me like royalty. We went to breakfast at the same restaurant most days and we’d tip the host (who often booked our dinners too), waiters, and then chef at dinner (we were vegan and they made us special meals).
Multiple nights the chef came to our table and the meals they prepared were incredible, and we even came to two reservations with flowers across our table, including once with “have a nice trip” written in our coffee on our last day.
Very weird but whatever. But in all seriousness, a $5 bill goes a long way.
15% for great service at a nice place.
10% is fine other spots.
Pro
Depends where in Mexico. In Tulum you’ll get NYC prices with the same tipping options as here. But they deserve it, the music, atmosphere and service is worth it. They go above and beyond.
Pro
If you’re at a resort, look up the policy. Some don’t accept it. Some are fine and $5+!for your key people can go a long way in terms on service. We would tip $20 and it made a difference, esp at bars and pools.
I will go with 10% as standard. Mexico has gotten pricey…
WYM SM1? 10% sounds pretty good to me.
They get paid normal wages not like the US where they only make tips.
My research says:
Restaurants: 15%. Taxis: no tip. Hotels: $1-5.
I have been tipping but had an ugly incident with the timeshare hounds last night. Disgusting people…
No, but they tried to get us to attend when we inquired about a snorkeling trip. I said we would rather pay for the excursion than sit through a 1.5 hour pointless session to save a couple hundred bucks.
His exact words were “go book it online then”…
