Yes and no. Experiences, age, just being around for a while, definitely help the process. But to say somebody young just couldn’t possibly do a good job is far-fetched. Sometimes it’s that viewpoint that actually stifles the creativity from somebody. I could say majority agree with the sentiment, but seems like such a negative take.
It’s difficult to creative direct a job you’ve never done. Like you’re 22 or even 28, how much real world art direction or copywriting have you done? At 22 you’re probably not even done ad school…how many productions have you been on? Steering the craft of others without having a craft yourself. Yeah - doogie howser existed on tv… but if you’re wheeled into a hospital do you want him removing your spleen?? And I just realized that at 22 you’re not going to get this reference.
Ehhh… kinda makes me think this guy is just trying to hold on to the old guard status. I would have elders tell me all the time I was “too young” but they would steal my ideas when I was a junior 15 years ago. Talent is talent, experience comes in many forms (not just through age), and some people don’t need to constantly travel to be inspired (books, film, history, psychology, etc.). He has A perspective, but it THE perspective.
In rare cases you could be at 22, yes. But in most cases, no. Unless it’s your own company
