I put my actual salary expectations on the application. If we align, great.
I'll never "know" if I lost out on a higher salary because my expectation was too low.
If my expectation is too high, they won't interview me.
For companies that DO list salary range, I make sure the number I plug in is within that range, even if my "bottom" number for those without a range posted is less than that.
I do, but only because the salaries are very rarely listed on jobs here in Georgia. I wish they would make federal salary transparency laws. I hate when you interview only to be offered a salary way less than you would ever accept.
Same in Arizona, it’s so frustrating!
I think every Job must have a salary structure that defines all employees positions in order to spare all this salary negotiation bs. Except rare or higher skill positions which might require considerations..
Yes I apply and put down what I want. if they want to pass they can. There was one job recently where there were a lot of responsibilities so I put in 25% more than what they listed and HR actually told me if we get to an offer stage they could give me what I asked for.
I have never and will never apply to companies hiding their salaries. Sneaky and soon to be illegal. It’s a sure sign they’re cheap and know it
If they don't show the salary, I don't apply. Experience has taught me job posting with no salary listed won't pay me enough.
I would much prefer to avoid applying to job listings that don't have salaries listed, but with how bad the job market is, I don't feel like I have any other option. I would also be pretty cautious when it comes to negotiating, because there is nothing stopping them from rescinding the offer and making the offer to the next candidate who will probably take it. It is normal for salary to take a hit when it is an employer's market.

I usually don’t.
I do tend to avoid positions without the salary listed. I live in Arizona so there are no pay transparency laws here either, so generally they don’t list salaries on postings. Usually only companies based in other states will add the salary range.
However, If I find a position that I think is a really good fit and I’ve heard of the company I may apply without knowing the exact salary range. It’s a waste of time if the employer isn’t in alignment with my expectations. I’m at the point in my career that I need to move on for more pay so I’m not wasting time considering any positions that are below my exact expectations.
Glassdoor is also helpful in researching pay at specific companies so you may do a little searching before deciding to apply or not.
I sometimes apply but only if the company seems like they would be in the range I’m looking for according to other salaries I can find posted online
