Hi All, My sister has done Computer Science engineering Bachelor degree and has 5 years of work experience in India. She is applying for MBA at https://www.kenan-flagler.unc.edu/programs/mba/full-time-mba/ and https://kelley.iu.edu/programs/full-time-mba/academics/majors-minors/marketing.html. Her overall goal is to get into Software Product management. Any suggestions if any of these MBA’s can open path in the desired space or if she is better of doing an MS in Comp engg. to further develop deeper Technology skills. Thanks

I had a 2.4 in undergrad and a 770 on the GMAT and ended up getting into a handful of top 10-15 schools. It helped that I’d gotten promoted a couple times in 4 years out of undergrad and ran my own small service business on the weekends I’m sure, but a low GPA can definitely be overcome
Yes... good gmat score will have more weight
Need decent score for top 30, very good score for top 10 and excellent for top 5. Undergrad GPA concerns may not be as big of a deal as you think, for top 30. They will be looked at carefully for top 10. AdCom wants to know that you can handle the rigor of the program. You can mitigate GPA to some extent with impressive and differentiated career accomplishments.
Gotcha. That makes sense. Thank you for the insight, I’ll start prepping/working towards being a more balanced candidate then.
GMAT score will outweigh everything if it’s high enough
GMAT > GPA > letters
What was your GPA and major? That will indicate what kind of GMAT you should aim for
For top 12, 730+ to get a serious look, for top 30 700 should do it
Average gmat score for a top program is 740
MIT/GSB/Kellogg/Booth are all 730
...Would like to shoot for the a top 30 school but I am trying to be realistic in setting expectations. Any thoughts are appreciated! Thanks!
