There are times when it’s good to jump and times when it’s not.
Thanks!
for myself, i value my time more than money. putting in extra hours means less balance, personal time, family time, more stress. i have taken pay cuts to reduce stress and hours of work. i went from miserable to being in control. and that was worth its weight in gold. i am in tech, and i learned that clients/agencies rarely remember the extra effort, and doing more so others can do less (and possibly make the same $$). unless you love what you do, if you don't have to work extra, why do it? employers have become less loyal, and particularly in tech, they are laying off in the 1,000s with no thank you, appreciation, or professionalism.
When do you decide that?
when my life becomes unbalanced, or my hard work unappreciated. if my stress level is up, i am not enjoying the work, feel unappreciated, or burnt out. i have done this a few times with no regret. the extra money did me no good when the work made me sick, mentally unbalanced, depressed.
