I don’t like the term “culture fit” but I do think whether or not someone will fit in and work well with the team should at least be part of the discussion.
It depends on the culture in place. If a “culture” fit replaces quality and actual job performance, it’s probably going to make everything suffer.
"Culture Fit" implies someone to match the current culture. That means the culture never changes, never adapts or improve. I have seen a take on the term "Culture Add" - is this someone who can add something to the current culture we have in place, to improve? It could be can do attitude, it could resilience, it could willingness to go the extra mile, it could be intentionality. But by thinking of it being an "add" rather than a "fit", it flips that mentality and limitation of matching what is currently there.

I think it can be risky. I prefer focusing on values and behaviours rather than “fit” which can limit diversity.
Absolutely! There’s too much emphasis on hiring for culture. It’s nice when everyone gets along, but at the expense of talent it’s not worth it.
