We don’t anymore, but it was difficult when we did because they would require us to interview, so many people with green hair, and so many that were 7 feet tall. In one case I lost a great candidate, who had green hair because they wanted to make sure I interviewed a 7 foot tall person too. I was trying to think of the best way to explain that I think you got the gist.
Well, we’re not doing it now so it makes it easier. We are quite diverse but we are not requiring x amount of x people
Yeah, some companies do track metrics to hold themselves accountable, but that’s not the same as quotas. It’s usually a way to push past the “we hire the best person for the job” line, which often hides unconscious bias. I’ve hired for diverse teams, and trust me, the bar doesn’t drop. If anything, I’ve had to fight harder to get underrepresented candidates into final rounds when others defaulted to “safe” hires.

thanks for sharing your experience
No quotas, but I was congratulated once for hiring a disabled vet who was female. Another time because I hired an African American vet. In both cases, I’d just hired the best available candidate. But if it ticked some other boxes, yay.

interesting!!
Officially in the handbook? Yes, we’re supposed to factor in diversity. Unofficially, I don’t think anyone follows that based on the people we currently have employed if you know what I mean.
