I did long commute for 10 years and while you get used to it, it drains the life out of you and if your driving in traffic has been shown to negatively impact your health. That said if your only doing it a few days a week it may be a good balance if the other good aspects of the job actually pan out
for SF, $95k leaving as a senior seems pretty low.. unless you love the new team and are dead set, i think you could find an even better opportunity
some background: being promoted to senior this july in hcol area and i’m expecting a salary of ~85k (currently at 70k as A3). my new job is in sf and would require at least 1.5 hour commute each way but pays 95k. the company isn’t expecting to go back to the office until fall at the earliest and will be only a few days in office each week. the salary bump is smaller than i’d hope but the role is definitely interesting, the team seems nice, and hopefully won’t be crazy busy which is why i think the long commute would be worth it
Promotions and raises are pretty consistent in B4. Expecting 70k > 85k is perfectly reasonable
Hard pass on the 1.5 hr commute. Wait until you can demand a higher salary and get an offer that allows you to live closer to the office. I get it’s tough in the moment and I’ve dealt with similar decisions. Sounds like you’re open to different locations, so I’d pass on this opportunity and target better opps in cheaper cities.
A big thing for me emerging from the pandemic that I've hoped to see is the end of long commutes. They're bad for health, bad for productivity, bad for the environment. Just overall something which needs to be abolished. That said if it's something you're only doing half of the week it may be more personally worthwhile than a draining B4 job. But make sure whatever pay bump you're getting aligns with the cost of commute - gas, wear & tear on vehicle, and time spent driving should all be added together.
I was in your shoes. Fortunately, I was able to find a job in my metro area, but most jobs I looked at were in SF. Does company pay bonus and equity? Then, it should be worth it. Also, find public transportation options and try to see whether you could do it. I used to go to SF occasionally by caltrain. You may be amazed how many people are commuting every day to SF. All the best.

OP - what’s the longest regular commute you have done and objectively how did you feel about it? Also, realistically how long will you be having to commute until you can either find a job closer or afford to move closer? Mostly rhetorical questions here, but give it some thought and you’ll come to the right decision for you and your situation.
3 hours commuting a day is pretty much working lol stay in public
