Awesome. Took tap dance in college for PE credit. Dancing can be great cardio and good for developing social skills. I recall learning basic dance stuff in MS back in the days of Disco (Google it, kids). Ok, it was more line dancing because the opposite sex has cooties in 6th grade. And I enjoyed learning square dancing at some point in HS. That was the one that taught the importance of listening and following directions. I applaud anybody that gets this into their curriculum.
Mine doesn't. I'm honestly kind of sad about it having read this post. That sounds like a ton of fun, even if the kids would probably act like they hated it. It'd be the kind of thing they look back on and are glad they had to learn.
That’s a great idea for many reasons. PE is an overlooked and misused class in many places I fear as school sports have become so much more serious. I wish we would disconnect competitive sports from public schooling and be more like Europe with club level sports.
I love sports and my kids were serious travel athletes. But school sports don’t feel like a legitimate part of school anymore.
We did all kinds of fun little dances through elementary school. The popcorn dance was my favorite.
I love this idea!!! Every district should provide these great dance lessons!!!
Our students slow dance. I imagine that would lead to some kind of parent backlash. But we do have square dancing in 3rd through 6th grades.
I remember square dancing many years ago in school. I found it to be mortifying. I was always the tallest kid in school and was often made to dance with on of the PE teachers.
