I moved back home (east coast) from LA in May, let go and hiring freezes, it wasn’t sustainable with the current circumstances along with a highly saturated talent pool.
If I were you I’d put all my effort into networking and connecting with ppl out there. Reach out to smaller shops too, competition is steep. Connections and skills are first, followed by if you live in the area (that’s my impression at least). Start now, decide if you’re striking up convo vs laying it all out there that you’re looking for work. Remember, people are insanely busy right now, some need a breather from work and some need ppl to cut to the chase.
I landed my current role through a friend, it’s remote now, and I’m thankful they’re paying for moving expenses (whenever that might be).
I hope this helps, I’m also just a junior. Good luck, persistence and good timing is key!
Nice! Keep it up!
I was in LA, currently on the east coast working remotely. I’d recommend Playa Del Rey, it’s more affordable than weho (where I was working) especially if you’re splitting rent, and close to the beach as well as a number of agencies.
