Would it be possible to work as a part-time real estate agent while working in Big 4 audit/consulting? I know this would leave basically no free time, but the busy season for real estate is summer so it ovule stagger with the audit busy season. Is this doable or would it be too much? Toronto bylaws don’t require to disclose you have a pet or that it prevents you from being a tenant (obv don’t have 1000 dogs); however, you may want to disclose it to landlord as you don’t want any misunderstandings. Up to you in the end
Lived in two rentals. First one when I got the dog I didn’t tell them. Second one allowed them so I told them. Meh. If you’re a good tenant and pay rent on time and don’t cause them grief then they’ll likely ignore. And yah they can’t evict you.
As a landlord, I don't care much about the pet rather damages largely to my hardwood floors and anything else. So I often have the no pets allowed clause but from what I hear, it's not enforceable. Ontario favours tenants.
I've had 2 cats in my place for 2.5 years and my landlord doesn't know. I see no reason to tell them as I'm sure they wouldn't be happy, but their no pets requirement was unenforceable.
They only scratch up the furniture I own anyways!
They can’t do anything - just don’t mention it. It’s not legally enforceable. However, do check if the building does permit it. I signed a lease and had to back out due to the building rules. Thankfully my agent covered my costs.
The no pets clause in the lease is not allowed, you can check out the standard ontario lease which based on my understanding overrides any modified lease that violates the rights of tenants. If the landlord ever give you trouble you can always refer back to the standard lease (it clearly states you cant have a no pet clause). The only thing is the landlord can enforce no pet if they claim its a medical condition, but that should be rare
Does the condo you live in allow for dogs? I’m pretty sure my condo bylaws have restrictions on the pets allowed.
Don’t know if it has any bite. Just know the rule is there.
the building itself is cool with dogs :) lots of pups around!
