Yes, what you are mentioning is indeed concerning.
However, I never regretted my decision to move here even for a second. Since I came to Vancouver, my life changed in so many positive ways. I built my own community, met close friends, I enjoy even the gloomy, rainy days & every day feels like a win, even if it’s a bad one.
A couple of things I am grateful for: the nature, how walkable the city is, the view of the mountains and the sea from everywhere, the lively people, the focus on wellness, the culture, the fact that everyone can make their own choices without being judged and the professional variety one can have here.
For context, 28 F - Moved here from Greece in 2021.
I am happy I made this comment because today I woke up feeling miserable, someone liked the comment and I got reminded of all the things I am grateful for in this city.
So whoever liked this recently, thanks 😊
I spent a year away from Vancouver in another country, and it influenced my life for the better. I moved back because I love Vancouver, but I recommend everyone to travel abroad on their own at least once in their life. It will transform you for the better.
honestly, it makes me uncomfortable and it's not really what I thought Vancouver would be. I agree with others, Toronto is definitely the better choice and where I'll eventually relocate
For me, it's been three years. I moved away from my horrible hometown on the other side of the planet, which is filled with nasty memories. I'm now blissfully married to the man of my dreams and have recently received my permanent residency, so I'll never have to return.
It's ridiculously expensive and I don't think the nature outweighs the insane cost of living
Sometimes. I don’t love the city, but love the nature, skiing etc…
Go live in DTES for a few months and then let me know how you feel about them. This mayor is a godsend.
This mayor is a direct result of how tired people are of the DTES issues
I moved to Vancouver from Toronto for a year. I did regret my decision. Already planning of moving back. Weather is nice and all that made you feel relaxed but I think I miss the hustle and bustle, more diverse culture and more opportunities.
Ugh me too. +1 for trying to leave Vancouver!! The weather here is just brutal. I didn't think I'd prefer snow over rain, but I most definitely do now.
Every city has its own good and bad. but I must admit that Vancouver is really an expensive city to live in.
I will agree the cost of living is much higher than I expected. I might have to get a second job at this point. I knew it was going to be expensive but this is outrageous
Moved here and while I love climate, ocean and mountains, I find people are polite but not as friendly as East Coast. I don’t think I’ll stay here long term.
Vancouver was an amazing place to grow up in. Stable base of support, safe, racially diverse. I’ve since moved on from Vancouver but it’s still “home” for me.
I mean I do like the city and what it offers, so for me the benefits outweigh the bad.
9 years in NYC followed by another 9 in the SF Bay area makes Vancouver feel downright reasonable! My wife and I chose to move to Vancouver when kids entered into the mix... I often miss elements of those other cities, but no, not regretting the move.
