I’m in Vancouver and I found Vancouver island to be too slow in terms of day to day life
I would say it’s about the same. Maybe a bit more expensive on the island
Vancouver Island is pretty boring, can't imagine actually living there
Lived in Victoria for 10+ years. Like PS1 said, day to day life is very slow (too slow for my opinion). It’s a nice place to retire but not when you’re working on your career.
Vancouver island is good for short term stay. However if you are planning on advancing on your career, then Vancouver Island is not the place for you.
Vancouver Island is a beautiful region. I love the sense of community there. But I have to agree, it's not the best place to be in if you're thinking about boosting your career.
If you are thinking Victoria, government or startups are pretty much your best bet. Slower pace but friendlier than Vancouver. Not a heck of a lot more affordable.
I lived in Victoria for 8 years and i found it great as a student but boring after I left school so I moved. I found the pace is too slow, it lacks diversity and food prices are more expensive. Rent is basically on par with Vancouver now so altogether, I’d say it’s not worth it for someone who isn’t buying. If you prefer a small town, quiet, European style city then you would enjoy it. I’d recommend visiting a few times and getting a feel for the city. I know a lot of people of all ages who love the island. The people are generally warmer and more friendly there so it’s always a great place to visit in my opinion.
Hello! I was able to visit Vancouver Island. Personally, I think it's only good for short term visits.
