I do both consulting and implementation as a freelance community manager. However, it depends on the project's scope and what tasks you prefer to work on.
I've taken on both types of projects. I prefer managing the community the way an employee would.
I only consult and develop strategies for the company to implement.
In some cases, the community manager might be expected to act more like an employee and follow specific instructions from their supervisor. In other cases, they may have more autonomy to manage the community as they see fit. Our company does the former.
Yes, I typically manage the community the way an employee would. This allows me to ensure that the community is being managed in a way that is consistent with the brand and goals of the company. It also helps me to build relationships with members of the community and fosters a sense of belonging.
Community management is a lot of work, and I think it's important to maintain a level of autonomy and flexibility that employees typically wouldn't have.
I offer two main packages with some variations within them. If they want to do everything in-house, I get them set up and provide training. The 2nd option is for people who want me to manage the community for them. The time commitment and cost varies depending on the number of platforms and how much interaction they expect.
