Freelancers - what are your recommendations for health insurance? Anyone have a plan they like.
I'm getting off COBRA ($1400 a month) and trying to enroll.
I go to a few specialists a year, so decent but not exorbitant plan would be great. Do you shop on the NY.gov site? Does it help if I form an LLC?

Not being political but unless the GOP does what NEEDS to be done for citizens by renewing the Affordable Care Act, private insurances are going skyrocket in 2026.
I’d wait until at least the end of January and see what happens before switching off COBRA.
COBRA coverage and rates are locked in and won’t be affected if the administration screws us—-leaving COBRA the cheaper (and w/ better coverage) option than what will happen to private insurance for millions of other Americans.
I used an insurance broker (Insurance Plus) and got an ok Cigna ppo plan for 840 a month (single). Going to 885 next year which is not yet a big enough hike for me to go on the exchange. Doesn’t cover out of network but nothing does that I’ve seen. I don’t think the LLC makes a difference.
Yeah, brokers aren’t cheap but you get a better plan than you would for the same price on the NY exchange.

Does your coverage include a spouse and kids? If so, definitely stay on COBRA.
Single people in FB are already getting hit with crazy bills come 2026 that are nearly equal to what you’re paying now.

Update - I got it through a broker. Not much cheaper than marketplace (about 1k a month) but the coverage seems to be better. (will be able to better tell when it actually starts lol)
