Here's your save-my-sanity question of the day. Our classes end-- for the year-- in 3 weeks. We also will have testing and finals. Do you think "1984" + misc dystopia will hold Sophomore interest?

Totally!!! I have a friend teaching dystopia in the context of the UN declaration of human rights which is a really cool way into the topic.

There’s also an article floating around using the Bill of Rights as a way in

How do you teach that novel in three weeks? Will you summarize? Only have Ss read sections? Read outside of class (which is a joke)? Really, you only have two weeks for a really long novel. I'm curious. I'm not judging. I want to learn.

I wasn't able to. We only got through Part One. But I'm definitely keeping it for next semester. (We get new students every semester)

I love 1984 but it's pretty long. Another option is Farhenheit 451. I think it's shorter and easier- the concept of burning books.

My gf and me call each other everytime we have free time. However lately she seems disinterested in phone time. She never initiates calls anymore and she tells me she wants to hang up in the middle of the day and not right before bedtime. We live a 4 hour drive apart. And I told her this is like living together from a distance, because I put her on the house speakers. What can I do to keep her engaged?

I have high school children of my own, but disciplining high schoolers has always intimidated me for some reason. I have excellent classroom management, but I feel like high schoolers are a little smarter ab getting around rules and less worried about consequences.

I’m told by an hs tchr that the grading load is ab the same.
