Going to Portugal for the week and outlook notifications are turned off. If anyone knows Lisbon well I would love any restaurant suggestions!

Belcanto is one of my all-time favorite restaurants! Their sister restaurant, Encanto, next door is a vegetarian version. Both are amazing!

I’ve only done a few tasting menus but the one at Belcanto was a highlight! At the time you could choose either a more traditional menu or a more modern/experimental menu, and we chose the more traditional menu. We also went to one of José Avillez’s four restaurants at Bairro do Avillez. More budget friendly and casual but still great food.

I went there a couple of times many years ago. We just stumbled upon little hole in the wall places while walking and had the best fish (I think it was cod) with vinho verde. That vinho verde is just wonderful on the palate and goes so well with fish. So at the very least, just roam around and see if you can find a little hole in the wall place where locals go. I also remember that the would charge you for the bread if you ate it. Having lived in France for many years, where you never got charged for bread, whether you ate it or not (lack of "bread" was one of the reasons for the start of the French revolution, after all, so bread is sacred), that surprised me. Portugal is lovely, and the people are so warm and friendly, giving everything to practically a perfect stranger. Love them as a people and culture. Enjoy!

Mannys Bar in Alfama for the best cocktail experience

Was there earlier this year. There is an amazing Indian/Nepalese restaurant. Can’t remember the name right now but if you search for it when there it will come up. You won’t be disappointed!

I highly recommend Antiga Camponesa on Rua Marachai Sidanah and Tasca de Esquina. They were my best meals in Lisbon.

Cura for a splurge, A Nossa Casa for unbeatable small plates. My favorite city, enjoy!

My favorite vacation ever. Was there two years ago. Happy to dig out recommendations, but one of the best meals I had was at Cantinho do Avillez. Super cozy and delicious.

Just reached final on-site round for a Senior Manager position in the logistics department. Role is for Amazon UK. Recruiter is asking me now for my expected compensation (base salary + total comp) via email. Any idea what to aim for?

I don’t know the level but was aiming £80k base, +15% bonus. If I don’t fall under their budget, would I automatically be removed from candidates?
Any tips are appreciated!

I joined fishbowl a month ago and while I’ve seen a couple contentious debates but I must say I’m pleasantly surprised at how respectfully ppl comment on this app even when disagreeing. Usually anonymity on the internet brings out the absolute worst in ppl; they type things anonymously that they would NEVER say in person smh. But I really haven’t seen horrible comments here. I wonder what makes this app diff frm others?

I’m so bad at writing the background/ facts section for briefs… it always gets heavily edited and no one is giving me constructive feedback other than “advocate more”. Any tips for getting better other than “advocating more”?

Any advice on how to deal with a partner/boss who is shifting all responsibility to me with zero guidance, no mentoring, and an unwillingness to discuss the issues? (Small firm, only associate under this partner and have been working at the firm for 2 years). There are an increasing number of passive aggressive comments from the partner who expects to be completely hands off once the case lands on my desk. Wants me to figure it all out despite cases being from different areas of law.

Transactional associate. Lateraled 6 months ago and one of the biggest pain points has been my new firm’s inclination to “hop on a call”, which of course requires every single stakeholder to join. The end result being every call has 25 people on it and nothing actually gets done because no one wants to ask a question that could come off as silly. It’s destroying my ability to get anything done during the day. It’s a complete performance and it drives me nuts.

I recently had a specialist partner send me a fairly nasty email after I (a transactional first year) was told to ask them to review something ASAP that had clearly been on my partner’s radar for over a week. Why am I taking the (honestly justified) blame for this? Surely it should be obvious that I’m just the messenger here.

Mid-level associate at a mid-size regional insurance defense firm practicing coverage litigation. Salary is capped b/c my firm only does I.D./coverage and has no direct-hire comm clients. Second round of interviews with a comm lit boutique where I would be the only associate with 5 partners. Other than partner track, salary/benefits, and switching from coverage to general comm lit, what qualities of the move should I be thinking about as I weigh my options? I've never worked at another firm.

Negotiating a settlement. I’m at $10k, opposing counsel is at $20k. My client won’t go higher than $15k. OC has come down to 17.5k and says his client won’t budge from that. Do I offer 12.5k so we can hopefully meet in the middle at 15k? Is that how the settlement game is played? Seems dumb we can’t just say let’s meet in the middle now and be done with this. (I’m a first year, first time negotiating a settlement on my own and I don’t want to screw this up!)

Does anyone know how litigation finance works on the plaintiff side?
